KidSight Volunteer FAQ'S
Are there any grants to help purchase a vision screening device?
Matching grants (previously called standard grants) are large-scale humanitarian projects that address unmet needs. The project must serve a large population. Grants awarded are between US$10,000 and US$150,000.
Matching grants typically provide funds for capital construction and equipment. Typical projects include mobile health units, centers for people who are disabled or blind, eye clinics, major medical equipment, nursing homes and schools in developing countries.
Application and Deadline
Applications may be considered at the LCIF Board of Trustees meetings in August, January, and May. Applications must be received by LCIF no less than 90 days before the board meeting date. Deadlines to apply are February 1, May 1, and October 1.

What is the price of a vision screening device?
The current Lions pricing for the Spot camera with case includes a 5 Year Warranty for $8,190; the camera has to be paid for before you can apply for a $1,500 Rebate, valid VALID AUGUST 1, 2024 – MAY 15, 2025. You can order camera through KLEF and not have to pay tax. If you are planning on replacing your aging camera, contact Lion Karen Hayse at (502) 553-1947 or email karenhayse@kylionseye.org as she has the most up-to-date information for you to use when writing grants.
Do we print every child's results?
Yes, this is one way that we educate parents and child care or school staff about the KidSight program and the importance of their child being screened. If a parent takes the time to sign a consent form, they deserve to see the results regardless if their child is a pass or refer. Also, we need to be giving the Referral Packets along with all referrals. The KidSight forms can be downloaded on the KLEF website https://www.kylionseye.org/lions-info
Does a SPOT screening device need to be calibrated?
The answer is NO.
Questions about software updates or warranty information?
Please have your camera in front of you as they will ask you the serial number of your camera (it is on the bottom of your camera). This will help them answer your questions.
