Holloran Program

The Holloran Trust Fund, which was established in 1967, assists low income legally-blind individuals in Louisville as well as Bullitt, Hardin, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby and Spencer Counties in Kentucky and Clark, Floyd and Harrison Counties in Indiana. Requests for help will be considered by a committee of Lions Club members who have been selected to manage the Holloran Trust Fund under the direction of the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation. The Holloran Trust meets every other month to go over any application requests.

 

The program has provided assistance to over 400 people in the last five years.

 

The guidelines to qualify to be considered to receive assistance from the Holloran Program are:

  • Individual must be legally blind in both eyes.

  • Individual must be a resident of one of the counties listed above. 

  • An application must be completed and submitted to KLEF.

  • Along with application the individual must provide verification of need and legal blindness. Applicant must also provide documentation of monthly support.  Some examples include: income statement, food stamp letter, disability letter, paycheck stub, etc.  PLEASE DO NOT MAIL ORIGINALS.

 

When KLEF receives an application the information is sent to our Holloran Committee to review and vote on approval.  The applicant will be notified via phone or mail of the committee's decision.

What does the Holloran Fund help pay for?

Those who are low income, legally blind and living in Jefferson or a surrounding county can apply for assistance with almost anyting from the Hollaran Fund.  The funds are dispersed to help at the discretion of the Holloran Commitee members. In the past people have applied for:

  • Low Vision Equipment / Aids

  • Household repair / appliances / installment of accessibility equipment

  • TARC tickets / transportation assistance

  • Medical expenses / dental expenses

Because of the geographic and other restrictions of the Holloran Fund many people are not qualified.  If you or your loved one are one of these people please see the resource list to the right.  

 

Many people who are low vision may not be legally blind, therefore not qualify for assistance from the Holloran Fund.
